Chipotle Mexican Grill today announced the second installment of its "Cultivating Thought" author series with 10 new and original essays written to be featured on its cups and bags.

The stories published on Chipotle's cups and bags are meant to entertain while exposing readers to some of today's most creative, influential and thought-provoking writers, according to a release from the company. Each cup and bag will also include unique illustrations commissioned from a range of artists.

Saving the Earth, One Pizza At A Time-Earth Day Edition 2014

Pizza Fusion celebrates Earth Day everyday. But, this Earth Day is special. We would like to announce for every Pizza Fusion pizza bought on 4/22/14, Pizza Fusion will plant a tree on your behalf. This is no gimmick! We have teamed up with the National Arbor Day Foundation to plant one tree for each pizza purchased.

Now, on to the good stuff. You may ask, what exactly is this Earth (Smearth) Day about? Well, allow us to give a brief history. People say that Earth Day is also the commemoration of the contemporary environmental movement. This movement was established in 1970 during America’s peace and love era. Where there was a war, there was a protest.  It was a chaotic time for our country, but saving the earth would still become a priority.

Times, they were a changing. America’s “consumeristic” attitudes and air pollution being pumped into the Earth’s atmosphere in massive amounts, was a cause for concern. American’s had no idea the damage they were doing to their planet. It wasn’t until Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring, (which sold more than 50,000 copies) did society comprehend the destruction that was taking place to our environment.

A U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, named Gaylord Nelson, founded Earth Day in 1970. After seeing the damage created by the Santa Barbara oil spill, and recognizing the power in protest, Nelson planned to use this spirit in a positive way. Nelson teamed up with a republican congressman Pete McCloskey and a man named Denis Hayes to help organize this movement. The three created a task force of 85 people to help advocate his cause.

They say there’s power in numbers and they were right. 85 people turned into 20 million and thus the first Earth Day took place. These people began to protest. They gathered in parks, streets and any public places that they could to protest the damage that was being done to Mother Earth.

Earth Day brought the two political parties together. Democrats and Republicans on both sides teamed up to protest. An incredible thing happened because of this. The first Earth Day established the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the introduction of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts. No one could have predicted such amazing changes to take place, but it did!

In the 90’s Earth Day spread globally. A team of environmentalists to lead the next operation approached Hayes to help guide them. According to EarthDay.org, “200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage.” (2014) This inspired President Clinton to award Senator Nelson with the he Presidential Medal of Freedom. (1995) This would be a huge honor for Nelson since no one could have foreseen the success this campaign led to.

The battle for a better environment still takes place today. With world leaders discussing global warming and the affect our society has on the planet, the environment is still a priority. We hope you will take part in this tiny act of kindness on Earth Day next week by enjoying some organic goodness (Pizza Fusion Pizza) and we will gladly do our part by planting more trees.

From all of us at Pizza Fusion, Happy Earth Day.

Pizza Fusion and the Food Babe Army Unite!

If you haven’t heard of the Food Babe before, well allow us to introduce you. Vani is the voice behind the Food Babe. She is an advocate for organic living and investigating integrity within the food industry.

This past week, she did a story on pizza chains and their ingredients. Pizza Fusion was lucky enough to hit the number one spot on “What to eat instead”. Here is a quote from The Food Babe herself,

“I was really happy to find out that all of their meat toppings are antibiotic-free! Their chickens are also fed a non-GMO diet. Many of their veggie toppings are organic and local, and all are non-GMO. This varies and depends on what is seasonally available, so simply ask them which veggies are organic when you order. They have about 12 locations right now, and I really hope they grow into a larger chain so that more of us have access to pizza places like this!”

We are honored to be part of the “Food Babe Army” and we stand by her and the Food Babe’s investigations.
